Te Awamutu Museum presents The Divine Remains, an exhibition of striking photographic images of colourful pressed flowers.

David Lupton is a Palmerston North-based photographer whose images adorn walls in national and local government buildings, corporate offices and private homes in New Zealand and overseas.

In 2012 Lupton took on a commission to photograph a garden over the course of a year for a private client. During that year he spent countless hours photographing a beautiful section planted with what seemed like an infinite colour palette of sheer joy.

Lupton writes: "It wasn't just the flowers, the blues greens and greys, or the sculptural feel of the plantings I tried to capture, but something more - the spirit of its creators, their intent and their inspiration. After fifty plus years of being tended this was more than a story of a garden, it was a story of love and commitment.

"Hidden in the bookshelves of the house scattered and tucked away amongst the leaves of bound memories and stories are pressed flowers left by the husband for his wife to find. In secret he would pick a beautiful bloom and enclose it between the pages where it became a paper thin 3 word sentence. An 'I love you' which slipped out to surprise when she took that book to read. Those little love letters are there to this day still waiting to be found even though he has since passed on."
