Funding and grants

If you are looking for extra financial support for your event, think about potential business sponsors and other funding and grant avenues.

Waipā loves events, so much so that we’ve got a number of funding opportunities available just for events! Check out waipadc.govt.nz/funding for application details, there’s a snippet below of what we’ve got.

District Promotion Fund

This fund supports events that provide a benefit for the residents and ratepayers of the Waipā district.

The fund will go towards applicants who can demonstrate their event has the ability to promote Waipā as an attractive place to live, work, invest in or visit. Events must be entirely based in the Waipā district.

The funding round opens in May each year.

Community Event Fund

This fund supports grass-roots events which create opportunities to build and celebrate community pride and for our communities to connect and celebrate our diversity. Events contribute to Waipā being a great place to live and maximise our facilities and public spaces.

This funding round opens in May each year.

Creative Communities Scheme

We have a partnership with Creative New Zealand (CNZ) to promote, support and increase participation in community arts and cultural activities in our district. Each year CNZ provides Creative Communities Scheme (CCS) funding to council to distribute in our area.

The funding rounds open in April and September each year.

Funding applications can take some time so you’ll need to start applying for funding well in advance. It’s important you meet as much of the criteria as possible before completing an application. If you’re not sure, ask the fund’s administrator for some advice.

For other grant application databases, check the Generosity New Zealand website.

Lottery grants are an option too. The New Zealand Lottery Grants Board distributes the profit from state lotteries run by the New Zealand Lotteries Commission. Check them out here.
